Something is watching you. The Monster Insanity Add-On adds a stalker to your survival world that grows stronger as you do. Survive six insanity levels and five night encounters, then merge with The Monster to gain its power.

Getting Started
Section titled “Getting Started”How It Works
Section titled “How It Works”Monster Insanity layers a six-stage horror story on top of your normal survival world. You begin by brewing an Insanity Potion. From that point on, The Monster starts stalking you during the day and confronting you at night. Each time you survive the night’s challenge, you earn a Shadow Essence that lets you brew the next Insanity Potion and push your insanity higher.
At Insanity Level 6 the monster becomes your companion instead of your enemy, and you can morph into it at will.
The Night
Section titled “The Night”During the night you are teleported to an isolated platform surrounded by thick fog. This is where you face the encounter for your current insanity level. At higher insanity levels, the monster may repeat earlier challenges on the same night before presenting the new one. Survive them all to see the dawn.
Survive every encounter in a night, wait for day, and receive your Shadow Essence reward.

Quick-start Steps
Section titled “Quick-start Steps”- Play Minecraft survival as normal and gather Obsidian.
- Use a Crafting Table to craft Obsidian Shards (1 block = 2 shards).
- At a Brewing Stand, brew an Insanity Potion I using an Obsidian Shard + any base potion.
- Drink the potion. The Monster now begins stalking you during the day.
- At night, wait to be teleported to the isolate and complete the encounter.
- Survive until dawn to receive your Shadow Essence reward.
- Use the Shadow Essence to brew the next Insanity Potion, repeat.
- At Insanity Level 6, witness the transformation and merge with The Monster.
Insanity Levels
Section titled “Insanity Levels”Your insanity rises from 1 to 6. Each level makes The Monster bigger, bolder, and closer during its daytime stalking, and unlocks a new night encounter.
| Level | Recipe | |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Level 1 A distant silhouette appears on the horizon during the day, watching you. | Obsidian Shard Insanity Potion I |
| 2 | Level 2 The monster grows and closes the distance, still stalking from afar. | Shadow Essence I Insanity Potion II |
| 3 | Level 3 Larger and bolder. The monster is visibly closer during its daytime stalking. | Shadow Essence II Insanity Potion III |
| 4 | Level 4 The monster's form is unmistakable now, looming and unpredictable during the day. | Shadow Essence III Insanity Potion IV |
| 5 | Level 5 Peak At its most terrifying. The monster is massive, aggressive, and relentless. | Shadow Essence IV Insanity Potion V |
| 6 | Level 6 Final The monster becomes friendly. A cutscene plays and your companion is born. | Shadow Essence V Insanity Potion VI (Final) |
Night Encounters
Section titled “Night Encounters”Every night in the isolate you must complete one or more encounters. Each new insanity level introduces a new encounter type, and the monster may replay earlier ones on the same night. All five must be mastered to reach Level 6.
Behind You
The monster lurks directly behind you. Don't look back. Resist the urge to turn around for the entire encounter.
Campfire
A campfire is lit in the isolate. Embrace the darkness by extinguishing it.
Staredown
The monster stands before you. Hold eye contact. Staring it down pushes it away.
Eyes
Dozens of decoy eyes appear in the darkness. Find the monster's real eyes and approach them.
Transform
The monster appears in human form, then transforms and unleashes its minions. Defeat every minion to win.
Encounters per Night
Section titled “Encounters per Night”The number of encounters you face each night scales with your insanity level. The encounter for your current level always plays first. Any additional encounters are randomly picked from your current and previous levels.
| Level | Encounter | Per Night | Max | Allowed Fails |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Behind You | 1 | 1 | 1* |
| 2 | Campfire | 2 | 2 | 1 |
| 3 | Staredown | 3 | 3 | 1 |
| 4 | Eyes | 3 | 4 | 1 |
| 5 | Fight | 3 | 5 | 1 |
*Level 1 is special: you get 2 chances total before the night fails.
For example, at Insanity Level 3 you face 3 encounters per night. The first is always Staredown. The second and third are randomly picked from Behind You, Campfire, or Staredown.
The Friendly Monster
Section titled “The Friendly Monster”When you consume the final Insanity Potion at Level 6, a cutscene plays and The Monster becomes your companion. It spawns near you and is permanently tamed to you. No other player can interact with it.
Morphing
Section titled “Morphing”Interact with The Monster while it is standing to merge with it. You become invisible and take direct control of the creature. While morphed you retain full movement and can use powerful attacks.

| Attack | Make The Monster perform a melee attack |

Are monster dangerous?
Section titled “Are monster dangerous?”- Sleeping skips the night. You can use a bed, but it counts as a failed night. You won’t receive a Shadow Essence reward.
- Multiple encounters per night. At higher insanity levels, the monster replays earlier challenges in addition to the new one. The encounter for your current level always plays first. Any extra encounters are randomly picked from your current and previous levels. You need to clear all of them in a single night.
- Survive until dawn. Shadow Essence is only awarded when you are returned to the overworld at daybreak after a successful night. Failing too many encounters means no reward and trying again the next night.
- Multiplayer. Encounters and cutscenes are experienced per-player, not shared. In a group, each player progresses at their own pace.
- Want to replay? Open The Monster’s menu and use “Reset to hostile” to set your insanity back to 0 and experience the full journey again.
- Embrace the dark. Several encounters punish light and reward darkness. Don’t bring too many torches.
